Dr. Abusaleh Shariff is a leading Human Development and Growth Economist of India and is Chief Economist National Council of Applied Economic Research, New Delhi. He has been recently appointed as the Member Secretary to the Prime Minister’s High Level Committee for preparation of a status report on Indian Muslims.

Abusaleh has a master’s degree in Economics from Bangalore University, India, a Ph. D degree in Demography and Development from the Australian National University at Canberra, Australia, and Post-doctoral research experience from Economic Growth Centre, Yale University, USA.  His current research focus is on assessing the impact of economic reforms in the emerging economics on individuals and households with a focus on portfolio investments, insurance and sectoral growth.

He was honored as the India Today Magazine ‘faces of millennium (Economist)’ in January 2000. He is also a recipient of the life time award for excellence from AFMI, USA & Canada.  He has 8 books and about 100 published and presented research articles to his credit.
