Discussions:

Pluralism

Muslim Agenda

Articles Continued from Front Page, these are archives past 30 days.

Reform Islam or Reform our understanding of it?  A group of Muslims have decided that “The verses in Qur'aan promote divisiveness and religious hatred, bigotry and discrimination. They must be either removed from the Koran or declared outdated and invalid, and marked as such.”

Silence of Moderates, a rebuttal  :  Religion is not a divider for moderate Muslims. In practicing their faith they give room to some flexibility and rigidity. Like moderates anywhere they seldom wear a glaring religious neon sign.  Indeed their presence holds through the turbulent storms of the world.

Muslim father kills his teenage daughter  :  Every human should condemn this act of betraying the trust of a daughter, and certainly Muslims condemn this act. This Criminal's act is not inspired by Islam, although he referenced it in that fashion. We the Muslims additionally condemn Muhammad Parvez for killing another human being and wrongly labeling the religion for his abuse. He does not have a space in Civil Societies.

Barking Neocons and Iran -Neocons come in various hues; Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Jews and others, and they cannot stomach the idea of peace. They strongly believe that since your enemy is my enemy, we will join to beat them up. The thought of joining to create peace is alien to them.

Silence of Moderates, flogging 24:2  :  Ms. Ayaan Hirsi Ali has deliberately misled the public by excluding the verses that follow 24:2 making it impossible to mete that punishment. One is innocent until proven guilty. However, she starts her article Silence of Moderates with an authentic verse from Qur'aan. "The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication, flog each of them with 100 stripes: Let no compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day." (Koran 24:2).

The Chris Plante Show on Muslim outrage : The constant question is “Where is the Muslim outrage?” Chris Plante’s main contention was lack of rallies by Muslims to stand up with America, and he compares Al Sharpton’s rally in a hurry against the treatment of six African Americans.  Farrakhan got a million mans March in DC. Where is the Muslim March for 9/11?

Where is the Muslim Outrage? : As a Muslim I am outraged at this nonsense going on in Sudan and Saudi Arabia. Ms. Gibbons affectionately calls the Teddy bear "Muhammad" and the fanatics cry foul. Thanks God she is released now - several comments listed.

December Festivals: This is a month of blessings and I wish celebrations and commemorations for this month..  We wish Happy Hanukkah, Feast of immaculate conception,  Boddhi day, Eid-al-Adha, Winter Solictices,  Pancha Ganapati, Christmas, Zarathosht Diso, Kwanza and other festivals. Details will be posted by the 10th. Glossary of Festivals.

Republicans, fix the President, or else?: We have the best system of governance in the world, yet, once we elect a wrong President, we are doomed for 4 years; there is something seriously wrong with this system. There is a remedy ...to it. Republicans have an obligation to fix our president, or else, they will get dumped on November 2008.

Forgiving Gujarat : Indeed Mahatma Gandhi, Prophet Muhammad, Jesus Christ and several spiritual teachers have believed in the power of forgiveness. Mahatma Gandhi said, “An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.” And the Qur’aan states, "the one who forgives is dearest to God”.

Asylum for Taslima Nasrin : When it comes to intolerance the people who understand their religion the least have the loudest voices. Their narrow minded Fatwa's and their recent harassment of Ms. Nasreen in Hyderabad have earned her sympathizers, some sincere, but many are out to make a political capital out of it.

Annapolis -The Iran Factor : This is a farce democracy agenda our President is pursuing? Decisions are made for the people without their presence? Every one is out to party, except the affected party. The Palestinians of Gaza or their representative must be there for us to be sincere with spreading democracy. It is about them as much about the Palestinians of the west bank and we are calling this conference for them, without them? How arrogant can we be to believe that we are right, as we are the might!

Annapolis -The Jewish Question : Agree with the writer, this is the way to narrow down the issues. If it is the size, then it on the table, but if it is existence, then the Arab states have to pinch themselves and wake up into a real world. CAVEAT: One thing we need to ponder as the world Citizens - if other nations accept the refugees, then we may be opening the doors of legitimacy for nations that will throw son of the soils. Moving Jews out of Germany legitimized Germany's illegal crimes of throwing out her own citizens. That is a precedent, should we subscribe to this value?

Annapolis - Peace in Israel & Palestine : Mother Teresa said, "If you want peace, go talk with your enemies, you don't make peace with your friends". I do hope the state department brings people who can speak up the harsh truth. If they bring puppets and make decisions, failure is guaranteed.

What is Thanksgiving? : Do me a favor, carry a small piece of paper with you anywhere you go, and whenever you get a quiet moment, make a list of all the people you want to thank. Making a list is the least you can do,  which in it self is peace giving and you will find a sense of relief with it. Even if you don’t call every one on the list, you have already said your thanks by thinking about the individual and reciting his or her name in your mind. When you express your gratitude to the persons who have made a difference in your life, it brings a ton of relief to you. The tension of the action (good done to you) to you is released with your re-action of thinking about them to writing their name down and possibly calling them.

Foundationless Castles of Neocons : Much of the knowledge of experts on Islam comes from a baseless foundation laid by the European Kings to malign the invaders from Arabia, thus Islam. There was seldom a king in the history of mankind who had no other business than expanding territories. The only way they could check the Arabs from conquering their lands was to use the poor subjects of their empires in defending their kingdom. So they get the Pope to.....

Peace Series - Palestine & Israel dialogue   Neither side of the leadership has understood the human aspect of the issue, and simply believes in the might of the gun powder. The majority on both sides need to push their extremist leaders to consider the human choice where family to family relationship is encouraged. If you want peace, Mother Teresa says, you talk with your enemies and not friends.

Pakistan- Breaking the Cycle : There is a paradigm shift in making. The US Foreign policy  is toying with the idea of supporting the Pakistan people as opposed to the Pakistan Government, i.e., from Musharraf Policy to Pakistan Policy. The only way to put bad policies out of circulation is to advance pragmatic sustainable policies. For a positive change, the United States Foreign policy establishment is seeing the light, at least Senator Biden has.

Impeach Vice President Cheney:  Nearly 3800 Americans have died, a Million Iraqi Citizens are gone and several million are made homeless... all based on lies. And now, like crazy maniacs running wildly aiming their guns at whatever to get the kill, we are letting our Admin run wild. We cannot do one thing right, it started out hunting for Osama, then bombed the hell out of Afghanistan,  jumped to Iraq and now Iran... do we have a policy of Chaos or what? Do we have reliable information? How do we trust these guys? Do we need these woebegones, to run our nation? It is time to speak up.

Gujarat and Forgiveness : It is time to consider the option of forgiveness... page testing.

Diwali Greetings & Diwali Message - Today, on this blessed day, we have a blank slate to start, let's plan on filling it with doing good things for ourselves, to our family, friends, community, nation and the world until next Diwali.

Gujarat Updates - We have to take bold steps to put an end to terrorism, be it by an individual or a state. Any one who disrupts the peace must be tried as a criminal without giving him a religious cover. We have "protected" criminals too long; be it in Kashmir, Gujarat, Mumbai, Delhi, Ayodhya, Hyderabad or any where else. If we do not bring Justice, the problems would linger, shifting our energies from prospering to dealing with unabated terrorism. No one should be above the law.

Why Muslims Lag Behind? - It is always the freedom of choice, live and let live that is the hall mark of civil societies. Muslims do not lag behind because of Burqa, Pork, Alcohol or polygamy. They lag behind because of the education and denied opportunities.

Humility for the Smug west - I believe, arrogance is the root cause of all evil, no matter where it comes from, on the other end, humility is the heart of religion and God loves it. Arrogance and religion are mutually exclusive and are inversely proportional to each other. God wants us to get rid of the arrogance

Gujarat Massacre & Justice - The blame should be placed squarely on the individuals, not on their family, not on their religion and not on their ethnicity or culture. Blaming a religion is a futile act, as you cannot punish an intangible, and the criminals go Scot free. We have the Civil and Criminal laws to handle people who disrupt the peace.

America, the land of Justice - Our current administration may not believe and practice Justice, but our Civil society does. Monday, October 22, 2007 will go down in the history as one of the most important milestones in the history of American system of Justice.

Say No to intolerance - It is ironic that there is actually shameless campaigning going out to promote hate against another people. How are they different than KKK and the Nazis?

Understanding Islam - You can learn much of everything you wanted to know about Islam in this workshop, finding the truth is your own responsibility and the truth brings peace of mind.

Jesus in Islam & Christianity - The concept of Trinity is alien to most Muslims, similarly the concept of abstract, formless, genderless God of Judaism and Islam is alien to Christians and others. How do you worship to the non-entity (physically)? And Muslims are bewildered how can you worship to a definable mortal limited physical entity?

Ramadan Triangle-Eid Mubarak - Arrogance is the root cause of all conflicts; the belief that my understanding is superior to yours is the sole reason for this dispute. It is an embarrassment that we have not brought a resolution to this conflict. We have not even defined and agreed upon the intent and purpose of Eid.

Understanding Islam - When justice is the norm of a society, people live a secure life knowing that no one will take advantage of them, when justice becomes the soul of the society, fear dissipates and peace prevails paving way for prosperity to one and all. Justice is the single most human craving that needs to be met for societies to live and let live.

Mahatma Gandhi today - Mahatma Gandhi is one of the five humans on the planet who has impacted my life profoundly. He was a messenger of peace; his language nourished reconciliation, and his actions encouraged co-existence. Whether it is the conflict between Hindus or Muslims or with the British Raj, his words mitigated conflicts and directed one's thoughts and actions towards solutions.

Ahmedinejad of Iran V Bollinger of USA - Do we insult a guest, whom we invite to speak, not as a response to the speech, but even before he speaks? Bollinger has set a bad example. There is no excuse or justification for this. He put us Americans in a bad light, does he care?

India's silence on Burma is bad - One of these days,  there will be a government of the people in Burma,  at that time they would not look favorably to India and look elsewhere. We lose both business and on moral grounds. We have to support all freedom movements, those business extremists may lose in the short run, but in the long haul every one wins.  America has made this mistake over and over again, India needs to learn this right now.

9/11 is Over - Let me add, we are about leading the world through example of our democracy, of our respect for peace and our respect for human dignity and certainly not alienating and creating enemies around the globe.

Indian Lobby's Future - The Indian Lobby is in a good position to march ahead, as much as it is learning from the Israel lobby, it can also learn that going too far, can bring negative returns.

Does God have a Religion? - I do not think God has or needs a religion, we have the religion and perhaps we need it. I am open to learning through your comments. It is an open field, let's enhance each other with knowledge.

Leave Ram Sethu Alone - We will see continuous debates on the issue, mostly politically motivated. The Sangh Parivar has lost its sails and wants to make a political capital out of it, where as the industry captains want to capitalize on the canal as well, and CM Karunanidhi is not far behind to strengthen his party’s hold on Tamil Nadu.

Shoaib Malik's Boo-Boo - Shoaib Malik has annoyed many a Cricket fans by singling out his fans, rather shamelessly. He should have thanked the people of Pakistan for getting him up there that is the norm for any player to thank his nation. However thanking Muslims of the world is dead wrong for many reasons, three among them:

You have the power to help a young Mother  We go through the ups and downs of life, and many a times, we have the ability to survive on mere food, water and shelter. There are times, we can have all the things life has to offer, but there are other times when we are completely dependent on one thing, just one thing for survival; one simple organ. I am asking you to look at the possibility of helping a young mother in her late thirties, daughter of my friend, who is in need of a kidney.

A Message to Muslims - If you Google for terrorism, you'll find a plethora of websites on the subject. Most every one is based on Islam bashing and unfortunately there are enough nincompoops out there who will buy any thing that is anti_Islam, in fact, the greedy writers and speakers thrive on cashing it. A grain of truth undoubtedly is the basis for their manipulations, but much of it is to frighten the public.

Muslim Billionaire in Hindu India - Not all Muslims wear their religion on their sleeves, why should they? Not all Hindus, Christians, Jews or others wear it either. Premji should be applauded for keeping religion out of his office. As a Muslim he has not Muslimized his office nor does he hire people based on religion. He is a true role model for India for years to come.

Festivals of September 2007: Happy Festivals - Janmashtami, Paryushan, Enkutatash, Ramadan, Rosh Hashanah, Ganesh Chaturathi, Mabon, Autumn, Equinox, Freyfaxi, Dussehra, Durga, Gowri Puja, Yom Kippur, Sukkot.

Unity Day USA 2007 - A 9/11 Event On this day we honored our men and women in uniform, the police and the fire, and the ones who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 by expressing solidarity and Unity. Program Brochure, Honorees: Jeff Weiss | Bill & Norma Matthews | Julie Ann Turner | Maryann Thompson-Frenk | Len Ellis | Bob Ray Sanders

Unity Day USA - A 9/11 Event invitation  PDF Invitation We are pleased to invite your kind presence at the 3rd Annual Unity Day USA event. On this Unity Day USA, we, the people of the United States of America; of every faith, race, ethnicity, culture and background, gather to pray for peace, unity and security of our nation.

Celebration of the Unity Day by Mirza A. Beg - When nations suffer a collective trauma, particularly the trauma of an unexpected attack, it is injurious to national psyche and pride. People rally behind a leader to draw on the collective strength to face the enemy.

An Unconditional Commitment and Proactive Pluralism by Rohit Chopra- In the years that I have spent here, one of the things I have appreciated most about the US is its legal as well as social commitment to pluralism to all within its borders, expressed in the commitment to constitutionalism, secularism, rule of law, and rights.

What are Muslims doing about 9/11 by Mike Ghouse- For years, they have been doing their darnedest to be positive participants and contributors to the well being of America,  thanks to a substantial majority of Americans who understand and help in the efforts.  A well known saying goes, “if you want the best outcome for the world, stroke the positive in people”

The Law of Karma & the Israel Lobby - The Israel lobby started out with a legitimate need; to protect and defend Israel’s right to exist. Power is corruptive, and the lobby is no exception to that. ..and they may have to back peddle several steps to catch up with the eternal act of balancing.

Congresswoman Johnson and Aga Khan Foundation initiatives  (8/20/07)-  It gives me hope when I see our political and religious leadership comes together and plant the seeds for the future of our nation. Today I had the opportunity to be the master of ceremonies at the youth leadership and diversity talk initiative by Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, at the Southern Methodist University, sponsored by the Aga Khan Foundation. Ms. Johnson invited the brightest of students from each area school (ages 12-18) ..

Hyderabad Bombing (8/25/07)-  We unequivocally condemn this act of terrorism and appeal to the State Government of Andhra Pradesh to punish the wrong doers. The time for the idea has come to start charging the criminals under Indian Penal code and punish them according to the law of the land.

Sikh Community's appeal to sign the petition (8/24/07)-  One of the most cherished values of our nation is "liberty and justice for all". Sometimes, we overlook what the liberty really means and step on it occasionally. We hope Michael Chertoff will consider the new law that contradicts this principle and he will get the people involved in he decision, that which affects them. Signature

Three Movies | Three Religions (8/20/07)-  Three movies are released on TV and theaters showing the conflicts of three Abrahamic Religions. There is another documentary made on all faith traditions - 34 of them called "one path, many ways" and I have played one of the 34 participants in the movie representing Pluralism in particular but Islam in general. It was premiered at Canadian Film Festival, but we are waiting for another premier for general release.

Muslims Stand with Darfur - Most individuals are inherently moderate, some are not. It does not depend on their religion, it is just who the individuals are.

Tom Tancredo - Thanks to the laws of the United States of America that checks the extremists among us. Watch the 6 minutes video interview on CNN with Anderson Cooper

Listen to Dick Cheney  -  Caught on Video live...this is an incredible 1 minute video. Everything that is done was opposed in 1994.

Muslims demand an apology  - As Muslims of India and the Muslims around the globe urge Mr. Owaisi and Mr. Farhat to apologize not only to Ms Nasrin but the Muslims of the world for the audacity of insulting them by speaking in their behalf without their permission.

Unity Day 911 Dallas - The invitation goes out to heads of all organizations; civic, educational, religious, political, ethnic, NGO's and other community service organizations.

Hate Sermons from the Pulpit Hate is one of the many sources of disrupting the peace in a society and it is our duty to track down the source of such hate ... be it coming from Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Hindu or other sources

Good for nothing Silent majority  - Evil exists in the world because of good people. The good people’s silence, silently gives a tacit approval to the bad guys to continue to do bad things.

The Community is a bus  Peace and prosperity of our World hinges on justice and plurality, absence or deficiency of it will cause the BUS to slow down. It is in the interests of Community of the Nations to bring up the people in ditches on to a level playing field, and let them compete from that point forward. Imagine each community to be a tire of the bus, if all the tires have adequate air pressure, the smoothness of the journey is certain, assured and safe. 4 Minutes Video

Congressional Hypocrisy - showing a lack of a principled stand on issues, our congress seems to speak from two mouths. continue

Burqa to No-Burqa - When the President of the United States abuses the authority given to him and violates the constitution and trust of the people (low approval ratings), when the Pope abuses his authority and utters words that create gratuitous chaos
